How-To Guide · Collating & Merging

How to Combine Scanned Documents Into One

Have a pile of scanned JPGs or PDFs that need to become a single file? File Splice makes it fast, with no software to install and no complicated steps.

Whether you’re assembling a proposal, application, business account packet, or just cleaning up a project folder, File Splice’s Collate Tool handles the whole job right in your browser, no download required.

Four Simple Steps

1

Gather All Your Documents

Collect every file you want to merge into a single folder or location on your computer. Scanned pages are usually JPGs or PDFs, but it doesn’t matter which format, because File Splice seamlessly handles both, along with PNGs and HEIC files.

2

Drag & Drop Into the Collate Tool

Upload your documents by dragging them straight into your browser window, no installer or sign-in required to try it.

Pro Tip: Have a massive volume of files? You can connect via FTP for bulk uploads. For most everyday projects, drag-and-drop works perfectly.
3

Click to Add Your Files in the Order You Want

Once uploaded, your documents appear as visual thumbnails above the drop zone. From there:

  • Select your order: Click each thumbnail to add it to the new list below. That list represents the exact order your files will be combined.
  • Left to right: The document on the far left becomes page one, the next becomes page two, and so on.
  • Duplicate or rearrange: Click a thumbnail more than once to duplicate a page. Drag items in the lower list to rearrange them on the fly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use multi-page files?
Yes, absolutely. If you have an existing three-page PDF and want to merge it with a single-page image and a twenty-page document, File Splice handles it seamlessly. The system opens up your multi-page files so you can view, sort, and arrange every single page individually.
Are there limits to how many files I can combine?
Not on a full account. If you’re testing the platform with our free online demo there is a 10-file limit, but once you sign up for a full account all restrictions disappear, and you can combine as many files as you need in one go.
What file types can I upload?
File Splice supports PDFs, JPGs, PNGs, and HEIC files (photos taken on an iPhone). Best of all, you can mix and match any of these formats in the exact same batch.
What does it cost?
You can test the tools for free using our online demos. For unlimited use with no file restrictions, check out our pricing page for current plan details. No setup charges, cancel anytime, and free support and account setup are always included.
Do I need to download software or use a specific browser?
No downloads required. File Splice is 100% cloud-based. As long as you have an internet connection and a standard browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge — you can use it on a Mac, PC, tablet, or smartphone.
What if I need a specific page out of a multi-page file?
We have a dedicated tool for that. Use our PDF Splitter to break a large document into individual pages and extract exactly what you need before bringing it into the Collate Tool.
What if I have a crooked or sideways scanned page?
Scanners don’t always align pages perfectly. If a page comes out sideways or has awkward margins, use our Crop and Rotate Images tool to clean it up before finalizing your document.
